The Hotel MacArthur in Tegucigalpa has a history dating back to the early decades of the 20th century. It was founded by the Cuban-Spanish couple Don Francisco and Doña Mangui de López, who established it in a large house that had previously housed the representative offices of the Tela Railroad Company. This building was located in the alley that connects Jerez Avenue with the Plaza Central, across from the Cinema Palace.

 

The hotel was modest but cozy, and became famous for its restaurant, especially for its typical dish “Plato Taca,” a traditional food that became its main attraction.

 

Since 1982, the Hotel Mac Arthur has been located in the Barrio Abajo neighborhood of Tegucigalpa's historic center. Its operation since the early decades of the 20th century has made it an iconic hotel in Tegucigalpa.
